Giedre has been painting since January of 2016, after retiring from a career as a high school English teacher with the Ottawa Catholic School Board. Having always enjoyed drawing as a child, she decided to learn how to paint and enrolled in classes given by local artist Kerry Stothers through the City of Ottawa. Giedre began with acrylics and then added oils. She still paints with both, depending on the piece she is working on. Giedre draws most of her inspiration from the beauty of nature, and in particular, the beautiful Canadian landscape.
